The future of Assassin’s Creed was revealed today at Ubisoft Forward, and it all starts in 2023 with Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Set in ninth-century Baghdad, Assassin’s Creed Mirage Focuses on the coming-of-age story of Bassim Ibn Ishaq, the occult presented in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Two more Assassin’s Creed flagship games, Assassin’s Creed codename red and Assassin’s Creed Name Hexe Code, also teased, with the former taking place in the much-anticipated setting of feudal Japan. Both titles will be part of the Assassin’s Creed Infinity code name hub.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage
A shorter, more narrative-driven game than the last entries in the series, Assassin’s Creed Mirage Takes place 20 years before the events Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, when players meet 17-year-old Asim (now voiced by Lee Majdov) who struggles with nightmarish visions and lives life as a cunning street thief. Fortunately for Bassim, the Hidden Ones (including his mentor Roshan, voiced by Shura Ajadashlo) see his potential, and help him escape from Baghdad to the Hidden Fortress of Alamut. As he learns their mysterious rituals and powerful principles, he will hone his unique abilities, discover his true nature, and understand a new faith—one that will change his destiny in ways he could never have imagined.
Built as an homage to the first Assassin’s Creed games, Mirage pays homage to the series’ roots, with players joining the proto-assassin order known as the Hidden Ones and growing up to become a master assassin. Ninth-century Baghdad was a bustling metropolis, and it serves as the perfect crowded urban hunting ground, with Bassim stalking his prey using the series’ largest selection of tools yet. Although they haven’t quite adopted the name “Assassins” at this point in history, make no mistake: the Hidden are a strong and established order, with resources and the all-important Creed to guide them. As Basim explores Baghdad, he’ll be able to obtain contracts and upgrades from a network of Hidden One offices throughout the city, as well as pick up clues about his targets and take them down with quick assassinations.
Of course, an assassin’s biggest advantage comes from his climbing ability, and when the series returns to a large-scale urban environment, Bassim will have to leap across rooftops, climb tall towers and evade guards by smoothly parking his way through Baghdad’s four distinct districts. When information cannot be obtained by gathering clues, Basim’s eagle Enkidu can take to the skies, survey areas and tag enemies for Basim to stealthily eliminate.
