At its CES 2022 conference tonight, Sony discussed its upcoming VR headphones and announced a new Horizon game for the device.
PlayStation President Jim Ryan took the stage to provide details on the company’s next-generation virtual reality device. Following its experienced and true gaming device name set, the PSVR successor is officially named PlayStation VR2. Its controllers are no longer Move wands, but PlayStation VR2 Sense Controllers. Ryan talked about the headphones proving a greater sense of presence and increasing the visual fidelity from the previous model.
PSVR2 Technical Specifications Published in PlayStation Blog Which reveals all sorts of cool things about the headphones and controllers. The PSVR2 will include 2000×2040 resolution OLED screens per eye operating at 90 Hz or 120 Hz. The headphones will also be equipped with cameras on the outside to track your controllers (and hopefully the location of the room), and IR sensors on the inside to track your eye movement. Another feature that should not be ignored is the addition of vibrating feedback on the headphones itself, which is quite exciting for a new level of immersion.

The first PSVR2 game was also announced at the CES presentation. Horizon Call of the Mountain is a new VR game that stems from a collaboration between Guerrilla Games and Firesprite (The Playroom VR, The Persistence VR). A short clip was shown in which a man takes off what looks like a blindfold or bag from the actor’s head, revealing a lush, wide forest with tall trees. They paddle in a boat down a river, with Tallneck stepping into sight, and then dangerously close to the boat, a moment that must have been a hell of a spectacle while using the VR headphones.

No date has yet been set for the PlayStation VR2 or Horizon Call of the Mountain, though with the released hardware specs, it may not be too far in the future. For another good horizon, be sure to check out the latest issue of Game Informer magazine With a forbidden horizon west that glorifies the cover.
