Nexon founder Kim Jung-ju passes away age 54 | Pocket Gamer.biz

Naxon Founder Kim Yong-ju passed away on February 28, 2022 at the age of 54.

Although the cause of death has not been announced, parent company Nexon, NXC, has indeed stated that Jung-ju is undergoing depression treatment, as symptoms have worsened recently.

Nexon was founded by Yongzhou in 1994, and launched The Kingdom of the Spirits two years later as the first multiplayer online role-playing game in the world.

“It’s hard to express the tragedy of the loss of our friend and mentor Jay Kim, a man who has had an immeasurably positive impact on the world,” consoled Naxon CEO Owen Mahuni, using Yongju’s English name.

“As a founder and visionary leader, Jay encouraged those around him to ignore the skeptics and trust their creative instincts. He will be greatly missed by his Nexon family and many friends.”

On the Tokyo Stock Exchange, Naxon went public in 2011 and became the first Korean gaming company to achieve a trillion KRW1 ($ 830 million) in annual sales that year. Nexon currently has more than 45 games available to players in 190 different countries.
