Poker F.VII and the Southern Cross of Fokker F.VIIb / 3m come to life in Microsoft Flight Simulator
Today, we are excited to announce that the Foker F. VII aircraft, the second aircraft in our “Local Legends” series, is now available at Microsoft Flight Simulator. The series celebrates the history of aviation and the editions are always in line with all the world updates. Local legends are famous local planes but may not be familiar to a global audience.
The F.VII, produced by the Dutch Fokker, stands as one of the greatest in the history of aircraft. He promoted the world of aviation during the golden age of flight in the 1920s and 1930s due to its endurance, reliability, power and load carrying capacity. The F.VII, first flown on November 24, 1924, and introduced to the public in 1925, served in the early aviation industry, moving cargo, carrying airmail and searching.
Originally designed as a single-engine aircraft, the high-wing F.VII produces primarily as a three-engine engine, powered by three Wright J-6 Whirlwind radial engines with 9 cylinders delivering 300 horsepower each. With a range of 750 miles, a cruising speed of 111 mph and a runoff and landing of just under 750 feet, the F.VII has proven to be ideal for many scenarios.
Able to carry up to 8 passengers, a total of almost 5,000 pounds of cargo, or a combination of the two, Poker F.VII has become famous thanks to a number of airmail lines, passengers and cargo. The F.VII was also the aircraft of choice of a number of explorers in expeditions across continents, oceans and ventures into polar regions and other unexplored areas. The Fokker F.VII is a glorious icon and symbol of the early days of the aviation world, one of the few that has captured imagination around the world and enjoys an enduring legacy.

Southern Cross
The famous Southern Cross It is the Fokker F.VIIb / 3m aircraft that completed one of the great firsts in aviation, the incredibly ambitious crossing of the Pacific – 7,250 miles from Auckland, California, Lebrisbane, Australia. Nine days after they began, while battling storms, exhaustion and equipment malfunctions, the four pilots arrived in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
To cross the Pacific Ocean, the pilots navigated Southern Cross On a route that took them first to Hawaii, then on an incredible 3,167 miles and 34 hours journey to Fiji – the first time a plane landed on the island – and finally to Brisbane. Historians say the success owed the Southern Cross just as much as the four that flew it.

The friendship is the Fokker F.VIIb / 3m that crossed the Atlantic in June 1928 with the soon-to-be famous squadron Emilia Earhart as a passenger. The three-engine plane took a little over 20 hours to cross, starting at the port of Trapasi, Newfoundland, and arriving at the port of Burri, Wales. Josephine Ford
The Josephine Ford is an F.VIIa / 3m poker plane flown by Richard Evelyn Byrd on his daring expedition to the North Pole on May 9, 1926. At this point in history, the North Pole has never been reached by plane. While questions remain about the success of the attempt, it remains one of the great adventures of the early days of aviation, and one that has proven the Fokker F.VIIa / 3m trimmer as one of the symbols of the golden age of flight.

The Fokker F.VIIa is a single-engine single-engine aircraft manufactured by the Dutch airline Fokker. The F.VIIa, one of the first transport aircraft in the world, was slightly larger than Poker’s original F.VII and also received a number of technical improvements, including a heated cabin. The aircraft, which could carry up to eight passengers or 1,750 pounds of cargo, departed for its maiden flight on 12 March 1925. A total of 36 of the F.VIIa were manufactured and formed an integral part of a number of airlines flying routes across Europe and many other parts of the globe.

The Fokker F.VII proved to be a historically critical aircraft for the Dutch airline KLM in its infancy. The first F.VII, painted in KLM’s unique blue attire, was delivered to the airline in 1924 by Anthony Poker. This aircraft was used on the first flight ever from the Netherlands to the Dutch East Indies island. The F.VII allowed the airline to flourish and laid the groundwork for what would become one of the world’s leading airlines.
