First viewed by PCGamesN, one of the developers of BattleBit Remastered stated in no uncertain terms that the hacked FPS will not add shotguns. In response to a query about the FPS component, co-developer ThatLiquidHorse simply said “No shotguns.”
OK, fair enough, but why? Every FPS game and its dog has a shotgun. This seems to be a fairly regular question that the BattleBit team faces, and as well Prima games Reportedly, the main issue seems to be a question of balance. “Shotguns in games have the ability to be overpowered or underpowered,” BattleBit Discord moderator TrueDevil™ told a fan. “As you mentioned, the balance is very difficult for them, so the Devs decided not to add them.”
That judgment really has the uncomfortable ring of truth: you’re either high on Hog Dual wielding Winchesters in one-shot kills in OG Modern Warfare 2, or just kind of annoying enemies with what might as well be hot air blasts—I was never a fan of TF2’s weapons, for example. Back in my Destiny days, there was a particularly ugly meta centered around a boomstick called Fellwinter’s Lie that completely turned PvP into a hot minute.
It doesn’t help that video game shotguns never really behave like real-life shotguns: Shotguns are surprisingly effective at long range compared to their digital brethren, but real-life guns aren’t quite the damage-limited flinkers on a videogame bench either. But that’s the thing, right: video games are a lot more fun than real life, and using shotguns is a high-risk, high-reward kind of gun that can do damage to a high-caliber gun. fun.
BattleBit is based on large, open maps, but I could easily imagine some little gremlin coming in with a pump action and a building camp or other enclosed space for an easy kill. The BattleBit team just decided to do away with that option, and fair enough.
I do take issue with PCGN’s claim that shotguns are “the best weapon in FPS games.” The best weapon in FPS games is without a doubt the Magnum or “Diggle”.
