Aliens: Fireteam Was a decent cooperative third-person shooter, and Aliens: Dark Origin Looks like a top-down collaborative shooter, but both have a critical issue: neither of them resembles Alien Isolation, one of the most tense and scary horror games ever created. With the announcement of a new alien game for a single player today, there is renewed hope (at least, by) that we will get something a little closer in spirit to that 2014 masterpiece.
Simply called Aliens, this new single-player game (I repeat “single-player” for intentional emphasis) will be developed by SurviosWhich has a history in developing VR games, viz The Assault of the Walking Dead and Sprint Vector. According to Survios, the Unreal Engine 5 affair will be “an intense single-player horror game set in the iconic alien universe.” The story will take place between the films Alien and Aliens, “where a veteran battle has revenge against the xenomorphs.”
Given the “action” in “Action Horror”, it is safe to assume that this tough veteran of the fight will be well armed, because no one is avenging against Xenomorphs with just fists. So you probably should not expect anything also Close to Alien Isolation, but maybe something closer to Resident Evil, or Dead Space, or the upcoming Callisto protocol.
More information about the game will arrive during the San Diego Comic on July 21, but it has been approved for consoles, computers and VR, suggesting it will be playable on both VR and regular screen.
As for the other upcoming alien game, Aliens: Dark Descent, which is still slated to arrive sometime in 2023. It’s a two-stick top-down shooting game that … you do you, 20th century games, but it’s time to make a game again Scary aliens.
